American military officer (1818–1898) who served in the Seminole, Mexican-American, and Civil Wars. His actions in the last were the source of much controversy, and he was ultimately relieved of command for his failure to pursue Bragg’s withdrawal following the Battle of Perryville in 1862. Original 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite photo of Buell in uniform, by Gurney & Son of New York, signed under the image in black ink, “D. C. Buell, Maj. Genl.” Scattered light soiling to background, mild toning to border, and some light silvering to darker portions of image, otherwise fine condition. RR Auction COA.
