Four ALSs, in Wellington’s difficult to decipher hand, all signed “Ever yours most faithfully Wellington,” three two page and one one page, dating from 1846–1849, all addressed to “My dear Mr. Malcolm.” One reads, in part: “I don't know what is required that I should do in the Quality of Patron of Ball, Bazaar, Concert Oratorio, Regatta and festival of every description that I am required to patronize in even the most remote parts of the country, as well as in London.” In another letter he mentions the Queen and his active political life declaring, “…I am the one who during fifty years of an active life have been directing and urging others to exert themselves in the service..."
