ALS, one page, 7 x 9, United States Army letterhead, November 26, 1947. Letter to Senator Arthur Capper. In part: “Many thanks for forwarding Mr. Benjamin E. Neal’s poem, ‘Thy Face Was In The Shining Sun’…I am informed that Major General Maxwell D. Taylor presented the Medal of Freedom to Miss Marlene Dietrich on November 18…For this reason and believing you would want to forward the poem to Miss Dietrich, I am returning the copy Mr. Neal inscribed for her.” In fine condition, with light scattered creases, a few ink and pencil marks, and a paperclip impression to the top edge. Accompanied by the inscribed poem and the original mailing envelope to Dietrich, with a TLS from Capper to Dietrich, enclosing the poem and expressing his “personal appreciation for the wonderful work you did during the war.” Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
