American explorer (1856–1920) best known for his claim as the first man to reach the North Pole; whether his expedition actually reached the target destination remains a long-argued point of history. Three letters, each signed “Peary,” to William C. Church, editor of the Army Navy Journal: TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, December 15, 1910, regarding a publication; TLS, one page, April 26, 1912, prompted by the sinking of the Titanic two weeks prior, in part: “If my notes in regard to icebergs prove of any assistance to the ‘Journal,’ I shall be only too glad;” and one ALS, two pages on adjoining sheets, February 16, 1916, Army and Navy Club letterhead, asking for “a list of 116 landing places & the authority for the list.” In very good to fine condition, with slight brushing to some ink in the ALS, and intersecting folds, irregular toning, scattered creases, and tears to each TLS.
