ALS signed “Wm. H. Taft,” two pages, 5 x 8, personal letterhead, May 31, 1921. Letter of condolence. In part: “Ellie and I wish to send you our expression of deep sympathy in your profound sorrow—We knew Frank, as you know, for many years and remember with pleasure and high appreciation his sweet soul, his refined nature, his high ideals and his earnest purpose. He was never obtruding, never self assertive, but clear in his convictions and courageous in testifying to them when occasion made it appropriate or necessary. Ellie and he had a common field of enjoyment in music…It was a great comfort to her to feel that he was always to be counted on as one who would stand by and help in days of stress. Our hearts go out to you in your loneliness and can only hope and pray that the precious memory of his loving, lovely and lovable nature may assuage your grief.” In fine condition, with some trivial creasing.
