Description

The French scientist comments on Ben Franklin’s work in 1752

French botanist and physician (1706–1767) who is credited with developing the first methodical classification for diseases and was a good friend of Carl Linnaeus. ALS in French, signed “Sauvages,” one page both sides, 4.75 x 7.25, August 23, 1752. Untranslated letter to a gentleman in French regarding the experiments of Benjamin Franklin. In very good condition, with scattered soiling, toned corners to the reverse from previous display, light scattered foxing, a tack hole to the upper left, and some paper loss to the lower left corner. It is said that 1752 is the year in which Franklin conducted his famous ‘kite-in-a-thunderstorm’ experiment, which gives this letter special historical significance. RRAuction COA.
