Pioneering comic artist (1869–1934) who created Little Nemo in Slumberland and Gertie the Dinosaur, who was the first original character developed solely for the animated cartoon and not based on a pre-existing comic strip. Original vintage twice-signed ink sketch of a caricature on an off-white 5.25 x 3.25 card, signed once with his stylized signature and again in cursive, “Many thanks, Winsor McCay.” In fine condition, with mild toning working in from the edges and some light scattered soiling.
