British statesman and 2nd Viscount Melbourne (1779–1848) who served as Prime Minister in 1834 and 1835–1848, best known as Queen Victoria’s political mentor. ALS signed “Melbourne,” one page both sides, 4.5 x 7, April 16, 1843. Letter of acceptance in his difficult to decipher hand. Second integral page is affixed to a slightly larger sheet. A horizontal fold just below the signature, light scattered wrinkles, and a slight brush to the signature and some of the text, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned engraving of Lamb.
