Description

“Look at George Gershwin—he had his brother Ira. And there’s Rogers and Hart—and Kern and Hammerstein...there’s a dozen more.”

American lyricist (1895–1943) who, together with composer Richard Rodgers, wrote some of the most enduring standards of the twentieth century. DS, one page, 8.5 x 11, April 21, 1941. Hart grants Loew’s permission to use his name during dialogue listing famous musical pairings in the film Lady Be Good: “‘Look at George Gershwin—he had his brother Ira. And there’s Rogers and Hart—and Kern and Hammerstein—and—and—well, what’s the difference, there’s a dozen more. They work together. One helps the other and they go places!’” Signed at the conclusion by Hart. Light scattered wrinkling, a couple stray ink and pencil marks to the left side, and four punch holes to the top, otherwise fine condition. RRAuction COA.
