Description

James pens a lengthy letter

Celebrated American-born writer (1843–1916) who spent much of his literary career in England and who remains best known for his novels exploring Victorian manners and morals, including such classics as Washington Square, The Wings of the Dove, and The Golden Bowl. ALS, twelve pages on three sets of adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 6.75, May 12, 1908. Lengthy letter in his difficult to decipher hand, which begins: “What a horrible silent brute you will have thought me, & how I have…suffered to think of…you & Olivia,” and continues talking about travel plans and missed meetings. Elaborately signed at the conclusion. In fine condition, with some brushing to ink throughout. RRAuction COA.
