Boldly penned letter to “Illustro Directtore.” Translated in full: “I thank you warmly for the honorable position that you have offered me but I am terribly sorry to have to refuse as I am afraid I will not be able to dedicate myself fully to it. I am extremely busy with the composition of my new opera, and as soon as it is completed I will go to America before moving my family to Paris.” In fine condition, with pencil notations to edge of first page, a horizontal fold through signature and a mild shade of toning.
