US Army officer (1843–1899) who served with distinction in the Civil War for which he received the Congressional Medal of Honor, the Apache Wars, the Spanish-American War and was the only US general officer to be killed during the Philippine-American War. Ink signature, “H. W. Lawton,” on an off-white 4 x 1.5 slip clipped from the closing of a letter. Slip is affixed to an 8.5 x 11 scrapbook page along with a photo. In fine condition, with a vertical fold through one initial, a couple wrinkles, and pencil notation along top edge. RRAuction COA.
