Mexican general and politician (1794–1876) best known in the US for his role in the Mexican-American War and the slaughter of scores of Americans at the Alamo. Tornel (1795–1853) was an army general and politician who greatly influenced the career of President Santa Anna. Tornel served as Minister of War, and helped plan the campaign that led to the Battle of the Alamo. Partly-printed DS, in Spanish, signed “Ant Lopez Santa Anna and Jose Maria Tornel,” one page, 8.5 x 12, October 23, 1841. Untranslated document which appears to be an appointment or citation for Captain Manuel Esquerro of the Infantry. Nicely signed at the conclusion by Santa Anna and Tornel. In fine condition, with three horizontal folds, and a few scattered creases. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
