Description

Jay grants a large tract of land in New York

American statesman (1745–1829) who served variously as President of the Continental Congress, diplomat, and, from 1789 to 1795, first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Partly-printed DS, one page, 17.75 x 10.5, July 19, 1797. Jay, as Governor of New York, grants three lots of land totalling 160 acres to Isaac Denniston. Signed at the bottom by Jay and countersigned by his secretary. Document is matted and framed, so both sides may be viewed, along with the intact, but detached large wax seal. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, bottom portion of mat slightly obscuring part of signature, and scattered light toning. The seal is well preserved and intact, and bears an abbreviated version of the great seal of the State of New York, with the reverse showing a sun rising over the mountains. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
