Major League Baseball shortstop, described as one of the greatest hitting shortstops ever, batting over .400 in every season through 1941. At the age of 40, in 1952, while fishing in the ocean just off the coast of Eagleville, California, Vaughan and a friend were caught up in a storm, their boat sank, and the two men drowned.
