Union general (1820–1892). Sweeny participated in the capture of Camp Jackson, successfully defended the Union line at Shiloh, commanded troops in the Atlanta Campaign, intercepted John B. Hood’s attach at the Battle of Atlanta, and broke protocol when he broke neutrality laws between the US and Britain after his Fenian invasion of Canada, for which he was acquitted.
