Confederate general (1825–1865). He gained early fame as the commander of “Hill’s Light Division,” becoming one of Stonewall Jackson’s ablest subordinates. He later commanded a corps under Robert E. Lee in the Army of Northern Virginia before his death in battle just prior to the end of the war. Rare endorsement signed, “A. P. Hill,” on a blue 3.25 x 3 sheet, August 10, 1863. Hill signs below the endorsement, penned in another hand from the Headquarters of the 3rd Army Corps, “Respectfully forwarded & requested he be returned to his Regt.” In fine condition, with some trivial toning and a slightly rough top and bottom edge.
