Dutch playwright, novelist (1914–2002) who moved to the United States in the early 1960s and became a Quaker. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, October 18, 1971. Letter to an admirer. In part: “To tell you how I arrive at the ideas for my writing is not going to be easy. I don’t think a writer ever knows; it is a combination of things you read, things you experience, things you hear, people you meet and all this passes through the crucible of some issue on which you feel very strongly.” In fine condition, with mild toning to edges.
