Vintage 7.5 x 11 Harris and Ewing gelatin silver print photo, signed and inscribed in the lower border in fountain pen “To my friend Matthew J. Whittall, With regards, Calvin Coolidge, June 1922.” In fine condition, with moderate silvering to edges of image, and small mounting remnant to reverse. Matthew J. Whittall (1843-1922) was a British immigrant who made his fortune in the carpet making business. Whittall was a member of the Massachusetts Governor's Council under Gov. Calvin Coolidge from 1919–1921. Whittall died on October 31, 1922, four months after this photograph was inscribed to him. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
