Description

“I suppose everybody [is] nervous the party’s over on account of suicides & atom bombs & Cubas?? Certainly no reason to stop a good party”

ALS signed “Allen,” one page both sides, 7.75 x 10.5, self-contained air mail letterhead, September 15, 1962. Ginsberg writes from India, in part: “All the gurus here say everyone has to be his own guru as it’s hopeless to look to others except for fun (or un fun)—your own heart your Teacher. I finished book—Proof for Ferlinghetti all this month so couldn’t reply, and am still not finished work so am enlarging my band—writing so cut this short & get back to business. I got letter from Carl in hospital, he sounds fine. Also we wrote Janine, glad she’s with Fernando V. Well last year’s parties were last year’s and next year’s will be whatever next year can cough up, I suppose everybody [is] nervous the party’s over on account of suicides & atom bombs & Cubas?? Certainly no reason to stop a good party.” Address panel and return address penned in Ginsberg’s hand. In very good condition, with central horizontal and vertical fold, scattered light creasing, and a small spot of separation at the center of the folds. RRAuction COA.
