Actress probably best remembered for the 1941 serial Jungle Girl, based on an Edgar Rice Burroughs story. In 1948 she was involved in an auto accident in which she received severe head injuries. In 1958 newspaper stories reported that as a result of the injuries she had been admitted to a California state mental hospital. In 1983, a writer for a film magazine found her in Pasadena. She had apparently fully overcome her physical and mental problems and was working for the city library. Lovely vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 photo, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Lil, All the best always, Frances Gifford.” In fine condition, with light rippling along the top and bottom edge, and slightly irregular adhesion to the first letter of the signature.
