LS signed with his instantly recognizable ‘umbrella’ signature, “Thomas A. Edison,” one page, lightly-lined, 5.5 x 9, personal letterhead, February 9, 1880. Letter to E. H. Johnson in London. In full: “This will be handed to you by Mr. James H. Banker one of the directors of the W. U. Telegraph Co. Any attention shown him will be appreciated by me.” Partial separations along a couple of the intersecting folds, and some scattered light toning and creasing, otherwise fine condition. Less than two weeks before sending this letter, Edison received his patent for the light bulb. A superb and early example of Edison’s signature, on uncommon letterhead from Menlo Park.
