Ballantine & Sons and General Cigar Co.…that each sponsor would be responsible for not over Eight Thousand Dollars.” Text has intersecting cancellation lines and is noted “Not used,” in another hand; and a typed memo, signed “Lee MacPhail,” one page, 7 x 10, Yankees letterhead, May 4, 1953. Memo to George Weiss. In part: “Dr. Bennett advised that he had a letter from Bessent last week requesting a report which he could furnish to his draft board…Dr. Bennett seemed to feel that this was a crucial year in Bessent’s case…He said there was no possibility that he would be drafted.” Aforementioned ink cancellation, and punch holes to top of one page, otherwise fine condition.
