Inventor of the Colt revolver and founder of the Colt Firearms Company (1814–1862). Signed book: Regulations for the Army of the United States, 1861. NY: Harper & Brothers, 1861. Hardcover, 5.25 x 7.75, 457 pages. Signed on the reverse of the first free-end page in ink, “Samuel Colt,” and across the top of the title page, “Col. Samuel Colt.” In very good condition, with scattered toning and soiling, light foxing, mirroring of the signature on the front pastedown and second free-end page, a pooling of ink to both signatures, with heavier areas to the second, a loose, but intact hinge, and light wear to the cover. Colt’s large signatures ring boldly from this early text, the first book we’ve ever seen signed by the famed inventor, and just one year before his death.
