Description

Cooper thanks George Burns for his kind words at the Friar’s Club, recounting that it was difficult for his head to “stop spinning from the flattery of it all”

TLS signed “Gary,” one page, 7.5 x 10.5, personal letterhead, February 9, 1961. “I left for Sun Valley immediately after that grand and glorious testimonial the Friars gave me. I sort of had to get to the mountains to get my feet on the ground. Watching the skiers do egg beaters down the mountain made my head stop spinning from the flattery of it all. That accounts for the time lag in thanking you for all you did. I will be forever grateful to you for your presence on the dais and your good words at the microphone.” In fine condition, with light creasing. This letter is referencing the Friar’s Club Roast of Cooper in 1961, thanking Burns for his part in the ceremony. This would be one of Cooper’s last public appearances. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
