Description

Henriette Wyeth

Acclaimed American portrait and still life painter (1907–1997). ALS on the back of a color satin-finish photo of Wyeth’s painting, Wild Brazilian Orchids, one page, 3.5 x 7, January 7. Wyeth writes a pleading and impassioned letter to an aspiring artist, in part: “You must have my advice & thoughts of becoming a painter. Along with learning to draw with accuracy and concentration, you must become a good student in school as well. Try to learn to spell and write good proper English. Read as much as you can, any subject that you love…in order to become a really fine painter an [sic] artist, you need to know a great deal; learn all the time. Then you will see with knowledge sharpening your eyes—making them more sensitive. Your brain and memory more retentive. It is hard work as well as exciting!” Wyeth signs on the front, “Happy New Year from Henriette Wyeth.” In fine condition, with the signature a bit faint, but completely legible. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Wyeth’s hand. RRAuction COA.
