Screenwriter, playwright, and author (1888–1981). Two items: TLS, one page on lightly-lined yellow paper, 4.75 x 7.75, March 26, 1976, personal letterhead. Loos writes to Phoenix Book Shop owner, Robert Wilson, in full: “Concerning your request of March 23rd, I would be pleased to autograph that page from Mrs. Ehrmann’s guest book. The only problem is that I work every day until 2:P.M. and am unavailable for a morning appointment. Suppose you telephone me at CI 5–4053 and we can set up an afternoon date. I remember Mrs. Ehrmann’s party vaguely, but am not aware of why I didn’t sign the book. Most likely it was merely an oversight. It’s interesting that you once worked for Mencken. What a man he was!”; and a glossy printed portrait sketch of Loos, 3.75 x 5.5, signed and inscribed in black ballpoint, “For Maria Sangara, with greetings from Anita Loos, Dec. 5, 1978,” adding “Sketch by Cecil Beaton” along the top. In fine condition, with some light creasing to the letter and slightly irregular ink adhesion to the signature and inscription. RRAuction COA.
