Description

C. C. Washburn

Military officer, politician and businessman (1818–1882) who served as a US congressman, rose to the rank of brigadier general in the Civil War, and founded the company that later became food giant General Mills. Two checks, each measuring approximately 8.5 x 3.75, filled out and signed by Washburn, and each featuring revenue stamps, one of which is initialed. In very good condition, with scattered light toning and soiling, some small edge tears, and the expected cancellation cuts and stamps, the latter of which mildly affects the end of one of the signatures.
