The Union’s youngest soldier

Grant’s Drummer Boy, known as ‘Johnny Shiloh.’ The youngest soldier in the Union Army, the youngest soldier ever to serve as sergeant in the US Army, and the last Civil War veteran to remain on the army’s active list. True copy of a Western Union telegraph, 8 x 5.25, dated February 28, 1874. Telegram is written and signed by J. W. Nichols, and signed at the bottom in black ink, “Jno. Clem, 2nd Lt 24th Reg.” Matted and framed with 10 Civil War trading cards, to an overall size of 21.25 x 16.25. Intersecting folds, one passing through a single letter of signature, and a circular area of toning to top edge, otherwise fine condition. RRAuction COA.
