Description

Clay exchanges sugar for ham

ALS signed “H. Clay,” one page, 8 x 10, September 2, 1838. Clay writes, in part: “The items were sent off several days ago…and I hope have safely reached their destination. They were put up on three hogs heads. I believe I informed you that the sugar had reached us, without accident. Mrs. Clay is well pleased with it. Be pleased to advise me of the arrival of the hams, their weight, etc. Mrs. Clay had them weighted but it will pro ably [sic] be more accurately done at Louisville.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds, one passing through the end of the signature, scattered creasing, and a faint toning along the lower edge. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
