Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer

Arlen was a distinguished American composer (1905–1986) best known for his songs for the film The Wizard of Oz; and Mercer was a highly regarded Academy Award–winning American lyricist (1909–1976) who penned such classics as ‘One for My Baby,’ ‘Days of Wine and Roses,’ and ‘Moon River.’ DS signed at the conclusion by Arlen and Mercer, one page, 8.5 x 4.5, no date. Contract rider regarding the musical play, ‘St. Louis Woman,’ stating that “by reason of various mesne agreements and assignments there have been vested in Messrs. Arthur Freed and Sam Katz the Manager’s interest…which entitles them to the Manager’s share of proceeds from the sale of motion picture and allied rights therein, and it appearing that such mesne agreements and assignments were executed and delivered without complying with the basic production contracts which required formal written consents of the authors to such agreements and assignments, and it appearing that save only for such formal written consents such agreements and assignments do not affect in any way the interests or rights of the undersigned, the undersigned, both jointly and severally and to the extent that their approval may be necessary, do hereby approve of said mesne agreements and assignments.” In very good condition, with a horizontal crease along the top edge, scattered surface creasing, light toning, a staple mark along the left edge, and trimmed edges.
