Handwritten pencil notes on an off-white 3 x 5 slip. Dean writes: “Terry Ray, SU-31776, North Hollywood,” with Dean adding a small pencil sketch underneath, which resembles an open road. Moderate folds and creases, and scattered toning and soiling, otherwise very good condition.
Accompanied by provenance from Joe Hyams, author of the book, James Dean, Little Boy Lost. According to Hyams, "The day after James Dean died on September 30, 1955, his best friend, Lew Bracker, went to Jimmy's house to tidy it up. In the process, he cleaned off Jimmy's desk and put everything on and in it in a basket which he took away with him and forgot about for more than thirty years. A couple of months ago [provenance is dated February 9, 1991] when I was starting my book about Jimmy, I contacted Lew who remembered the things he had boxed up. Included in the material was…some notes which Jimmy had scribbled on pieces of paper…I am also enclosing an original note with a doodle for your personal collection. Unfortunately I don't know the identity of Terry Ray." Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
