Description

Scarce document from the pioneering director

French screenwriter, director, and actor (1900–1979) whose body of work included The Cocoanuts with the Marx Brothers, Ex-Lady with Bette Davis, Murders in the Rue Morgue with Bela Lugosi, and Rogues’ Regiment with Dick Powell and Vincent Price. Florey was also one of the first film directors to make the transition to television, producing many episodes of The Outer Limits, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and The Twilight Zone. DS, one page, 8.5 x 11, February 22, 1964. A confidential document detailing the methods through which the Directors Guild of America, Inc. computes its membership dues. Florey lists his earnings for 1963 “As A Member, including wages, payment for residual rights, TV re-runs, deferred payments and participations were $15,000,” and his “estimated earnings for 1964 to be $10,000,” signed and dated by Florey, adding his Los Angeles address. In very good condition, with scattered surface creasing, a paperclip impression towards the top left corner, and ink notations in another hand and a ‘received’ stamp towards the bottom portion of the document. The first item we’ve ever seen from Florey, this document presents a flawless signature and a unique look into the inner workings of the exclusive guild. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
