Pioneering African-American contralto (1897–1993) best remembered for her memorable 1939 performance on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial after the Daughters of the American Revolution refused to let her perform for a racially mixed audience at Constitution Hall. Program from Anderson’s Carnegie Hall concert on January 3 during the 1943–44 season, 7.5 x 10.25, 14 pages, signed on the front cover in fountain pen. Light handling wear, a bit of soiling to cover, and light contrast to portion of signature, otherwise fine condition. RRAuction COA.
