Confederate Governor of Texas. Clark assumed office in 1861 when Sam Houston refused to swear allegiance to the Confederacy. Partly-printed DS, one page both sides, 8 x 4, March 4, 1861. Treasury pay warrant, signed as governor of Texas, issued to Lieutenant F. W. Fauntleroy for $285.00 for “Protection of the frontier.” Boldly signed on the reverse by Clark. In good condition, with intersecting folds, scattered toning and soiling, two circular cancellation holes to bottom, scattered edge tears, some writing on front light, but mostly legible, and an old tape repair along one edge.
