TLS signed “Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis,” one page, 8 x 10.5, Doubleday letterhead, June 21, 1985. In a letter to Walter Bergman of the Croyden Bookshop in New York, Kennedy writes in regard to a new Doubleday release, in full: “I am writing to tell you about a book that we are publishing next October. I feel this book is truly unique and will be of special interest to you and your customers. A Princess Remembers is the memoir of Gayatri Devi, the Maharani of Jaipur, and is the enchanting look at a romantic time in India’s recent history. The Maharani, a beautiful and articulate writer, tells with disarming honesty of what life was like being courted by and married to a dashing Maharajah, and she shares her stories about the intimacies of court life with the warmth and expressiveness which come naturally to her. We look forward to next fall when the book will publish and when Gayatri Devi will arrive to promote it. Working with her on A Princess Remembers has been a treasured experience for me, and I feel sure you will be as moved by it as I have been.” Double-matted and framed with a sizeable photo of the beautiful Jackie O., to an overall size of 33 x 23. In fine condition, with the signature a couple of shades lighter, but completely legible. Kennedy Onassis served as a Senior Editor at Doubleday books, and it is no surprise she was so intrigued and supportive of Gayatri Devi’s story; the Indian princess was raised royalty, courted renowned polo player, Jai the Maharaja of Jaipur, and after their marriage, had to adjust to the concept of being a third wife. She was listed as one of the most beautiful women in the world by Vogue magazine, and is considered a fascinating female icon. Oversized. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
