Soldier, author, and customs officer (1802–1890), who was a prisoner of war during the Civil War. DS, one page, 7.75 x 5.25, December 31, 1839. Pay order reads, “To Reuben M. Potter, Dr. To Salary of the Quarter ending this date as Deputy Collector 375. Three hundred and seventy five dollars rec’d payment of the collector Custom House Velasco.” Neatly signed at the conclusion by Potter.
