“I am compelled to write you about my painting ‘le portrait de Diguemont.’ It hasn’t come back yet”

French artist and sculptor (1880–1954) and co-founder of Fauvism with Henri Matisse. ALS in French, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 6.5, February 11, 1936. Letter to Andre Dezarrois, curator of the Jeu de Paume Museum in Paris. In part (translated): “I am compelled to write you about my painting ‘le portrait de Diguemont.’ It hasn’t come back yet and I am very troubled about that. I’d be grateful for information as soon as possible.” Small stain to lower left along hinge and bottom of second page, otherwise fine condition. RRAuction COA.
