Description

Innovative agricultural chemist

German chemist (1803–1873) and creator of the world's first scientific research laboratory. One of the premier chemistry teachers of all time, he set into motion an application of chemical principles that had a profound effect on the future welfare of mankind. ANS in German, signed “J. Liebig,” one page, 8 x 13.25, no date. Brief note written alongside an ALS from German zoologist and explorer Moritz Wagner. Wagner asks the Praesidium to send him 12 copies of Vines and Steinacker’s treatise on the Genera and Species of American Freshwater Fish. Liebig pens a four-line untranslated note to the lower left to Wiedmann inquiring as to how many copies are available. Beneath Wiedmann’s reply Liebig signs again, “approved Fr. Liebig.” In very good condition, with central horizontal and vertical fold, scattered creasing and wrinkling, a couple small edge tears, and some mild toning. RRAuction COA.
