Description

“At the risk of repetition let me tell you how glad I shall be to come”

Distinguished American-born artist (1856–1925) who spent most of his career as an expatriate in Europe. ALS signed “John S. Sargent,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, personal letterhead, February 24. Sargent writes Miss Thornton. In full: “I have a misgiving that I did not answer your kind invitation to dinner on Wed. the 11th although I inscribed it in my book. I hope my fear is groundless, but at the risk of repetition let me tell you how glad I shall be to come.” A few creases, single central horizontal fold, a bit of soiling and toning, and mounting residue on the reverse, otherwise fine condition.
