French painter (1885–1956). ALS in French, signed “Marie,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4 x 5, no date but circa 1935. Letter to Paule. In full (translated): “Thank you for all your kindnesses. I have the impression I am feeling better - for when one has a cold one cannot see snow falling without feeling one’s throat itching. Susan had a heavy liver crisis with sinusite and is in bed. She looks so much as a child that she jumps in the house as if nothing had happened. Most affectionately to you both dear Paule and Freddo.” Under her signature, Laurencin adds, “no more Jardin des Plantes {Zoo}. We will go together and the Shetland Ponies & company will have forgotten us ,as well as the big tortoises back into their dreams. We owe you lots of coins.” On the adjoining page, Laurencin has added a full page crayon and pencil sketch of a woman in an elaborate headdress. Scattered toning and soiling, otherwise fine condition. RRAuction COA.
