The hard-nosed captor of Dillinger writes a tender love letter

FBI agent and archetypical “G-Man” (1903–1960) responsible for the capture of John Dillinger, “Pretty Boy” Floyd, “Baby Face” Nelson, and other notorious baddies. ALS signed “Melvin,” two pages, lightly-lined, 8 x 10.5, August 28, 1943. Letter to his wife Rosanne. In part: “This week has been a busy one. I shipped the watches to you by prepaid express this morning. Insured them for four thousand dollars and sent the [sic] to you at the Library…Tell the little boy I love him and miss him and that I know he is the goodest boy in the world.” In fine condition, with uniform toning with a few heavier diagonal strips, and an old paperclip to top left corner. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
