Description

The Baron is “up to my eyes in work” at the famed Green Room Club

British character actor (1858–1933), best remembered for the role of old Baron Frankenstein in 1931’s classic, Frankenstein. ALS signed “Fred Kerr,” two pages, 4.25 x 6.75. A letter to his dear friend, Katie Pettitt, on Green Room Club stationery. In part: “Milk Street Soho is a good place. Forgive my not having written yesterday. I am up to my eyes in work. When you are in town shopping do come & look me up…” Matted with a photo of Kerr as Baron Frankenstein, to an overall size of 11 x 14. In very good condition, with light surface marks, a uniform shade of toning, scattered foxing on the second page with a few remnants of repair tape, and a small stray pencil mark on the top right corner of the first page. Founded in 1877, the Green Room Club was an establishment that catered to actors and notables, where Kerr would have likely found himself surrounded by such luminaries as Henry Irving, Bram Stoker, Edmund Gwenn, C. Aubrey Smith, W. S. Gilbert, and William Terriss. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
