American Naval Commander and artist (1890-1950), Coale became nationally known for his famous murals and paintings, and implemented the Combat Artists Program in 1941. He was the Navy’s first combat artist on active duty. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 photo of the commander in his uniform, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To Ashley T. Cole, With warm regards, Griffith Baily Coale, Commander U. S. N. R.
