ADS, signed in the text “Andrew Jackson,” and “A. Jackson,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 7.75 x 13, 1812. Horse expense document is headed at the top, “Racing Company in acct with Andrew Jackson fall 1812.” In part, “Expence of bringing Stump the Dealer from Georgia to the Hermitage — $7. Keeping Stump the dealer two months — 10. Keeping & training him from the first day of Sept until the 2nd day of Nov.br at a guinea a week Eight weeks — 39. Medicine for him as pr Doctor Bedfords bill. — 8.33 1/3. Shewing him & plating him — 2.50…Decature from the first of Sept untill the 24th of October say seven and half weeks…keeping The Western light for seven & a half weeks — 35. Medicine for him — 8 33 1/3. Shewing & plating him — 2.50. Rubbers & riders & finding them 27…” Jackson has totaled this page: “233.58.1/3” At the bottom of the second page, Jackson writes: “The above acctt is made out without any charge for Mr. Hutchings superintending the horses calculating his attention to clear him from any part of the expence of keeping that it should be divided amongst A. Jackson J. Jackson & Col. Ward. Col. Ward is entitled to a credit for rubbers & riders to the Western light and finding them and also for a rubber & rider to the full end of the term. The expence of Mr. Hutchings whilst at the tract and the expence of the liquor for horses to be added to this bill and divided in three equal parts.” Jackson has also docketed the reverse of the second page, “amount of expence of keeping horses in fall 1812 - and cash recd on the 3 days running for settlement.” In very good condition, with bottom of second page trimmed, intersecting folds, one through a signature, uniform toning, and a partial separation along hinge. Document is housed in teal leather half binding clamshell case with blue cloth boards. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
