ALS signed “M. V. Buren,” 5 x 7.5, no date [circa 1820s]. Van Buren writes New York Senator Charles Dudley, a fellow member of the Albany Regency, a powerful political organization. In part: “I want to let Mrs. Cantine take a little ride to day [sic]. Leave your horse home and…give Dennis a line to Ms. Dudley to direct your servant to bring this week.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds with two folds affecting his name, wrinkling, and areas of toning. Dudley filled the US Senate seat vacated by Van Buren in 1829, when Van Buren was elected Governor of New York, with the duo becoming regular correspondents. “Mrs. Cantine” was the wife of New York State Senator Moses I.
