Description

Financial hope to the indigent patients of his Warm Springs facility

Bank of New York Company check, 8.25 x 3, filled out and signed by Roosevelt, “Georgia Warm Springs Foundation Patients Aid Fund, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Pres.,” made payable to E. T. Curtis, Manager, for $166.00, February 11, 1928. In very good condition, with expected bank stamps and cancellation holes, and show-through from a stamp on the reverse. To ensure that no one in need was ever turned away from his Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation, FDR established a Patients’ Aid Fund to provide financial assistance. When that fund was depleted, the future president ordered the bills of those patients who could not afford the cost be sent directly to him for payment. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
