Description

Choice portrait of the ‘Blue Danube’ composer

Eminent Viennese composer (1825–1899), known as ‘The Waltz King,’ best known for such all-time favorites as ‘The Beautiful Blue Danube’ and the ‘Emperor Waltz,’ and for the operetta staple, ‘Die Fledermaus.’ Distinguished original 2.4 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait by Fritz Luckhardt of Wein [Vienna] (so noted on the bottom and reverse), capturing Strauss in a three-piece suit and impressive whiskers, boldly signed along the bottom of the image in black ink. In fine condition, with a few scattered light surface marks to image. Strauss is seldom-seen in photos of this quality. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
