Distinguished author (1811–1896) whose epochal 1852 novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin brought the issue of slavery to the fore of American consciousness and became one of the classics of 19th century literature. Brief notation written on a 4.25 x 5.5 page tipped into the first free end page of Oldtown Folks. In full: “Presents to the cause of our suffering brothers and sisters in Jamaica by H. B. Stowe.” In fine condition, with areas of toning; the book rates very good with some toning to the pages, scattered staining to the boards, and the spine slight loose. Important to note that Stowe's Aunt Mary had been married to a Jamaican planter from whom she fled because of the way that he mistreated his slaves. This inspired Harriet to take up the cause of helping the slaves in Jamaica. A unique sentiment as Stowe takes up a new cause. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
