Eminent and versatile Swiss-born American zoologist and geologist (1807–1873) who carried out much of his research as a longtime faculty member at Harvard, where he was also instrumental in building the university’s enviable natural history collection. Two items: ALS, signed “L. Agassiz,” one page, 7 x 8.25, dated May 23, 1869. In full: “I am very much obliged to you for your kindness in allowing me to read the interesting correspondence which was penned between you & our Minister in Switzerland. There is nothing that gives me so much pleasure as the frequently recurring evidence of the good will felt between the American people & my Countrymen of the Old World.”; and an ink signature, “L. Agassiz, Salem, March 16th, 1863,” on an off-white 4 x 2 clipped slip. In very good overall condition. RRAuction COA.
